Best Smoker

by Jeff
(Schererville, IN)

I have a Masterbuilt electric smoker, and it's worked fine for the several years I've had it. But after a couple of cramped briskets and pork butts, I'm ready to upsize.

The Masterbuilt Gravity series charcoal grill/smoker looks interesting to me. I'd like to either go this route or maybe a pellet.

Any advice/suggestions?

Which SMoker is Right for You?
by: Joseph

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your question.

The Masterbuilt Gravity Series does look interesting. It will work better than most pellet grills for cooking hotter and searing meats.

Camp Chef makes the Apex Pellet Grill, a combo pellet/propane grill. But the Masterbuilt Gravity Series gets up to 700°F while the Apex Grill only gets to 650°F.

Because the Masterbuilt uses charcoal, it will not give your food as much smoke flavor as a pellet grill. But you can get a smoky flavor if you add wood to the charcoal or use only wood.

Choosing the best smoker depends on your personality and cooking style; what you want to cook, how you want it to taste, and how hands-on you want to be.

I go over this in more detail on my page about Barbecue Smokers.

Some of us have difficulty deciding, so we buy more than one. You probably will, too. There are many smokers, and they all give your food a unique flavor.

I recommend you experiment and have fun.

Whatever smoker you choose, I hope you enjoy it for many years and can share that tasty barbecue with the ones you love.

Happy Cooking!

Joe
